This Arches itinerary gives you two days for the park's standout landscapes, with an optional third day for nearby scenery or a weather buffer. Moab is the natural base for lodging, food, and supplies, while Canyonlands Regional Airport offers a nearby arrival option. If you have only one day, combine a few scenic-road stops with one priority hike rather than squeezing both full days into a rushed visit.

Step 1

Arrival: Fly into CNY and Settle Near Moab

Fly into Canyonlands Regional Airport (CNY) and arrange ground transportation before arrival. Use roughly 44 minutes and 25.7 miles as an airport-transfer planning estimate for your Arches-area stay; your actual route depends on where you book lodging. Confirm the drive to your specific address rather than treating that estimate as universal.

Use arrival day to buy groceries, fill water containers, and check your equipment. Review the official Arches NPS site for entry requirements, trail conditions, and alerts before committing to the next morning's start. If your flight arrives late, prioritize rest over a hurried park visit. Staying in or near Moab keeps meals and supplies convenient.

Day 1: Scenic Road, Windows, and Devils Garden

Begin with the main park road and choose a few short stops, such as Park Avenue's viewpoint and Balanced Rock. Continue to the Windows area for a closer look at arches and massive sandstone forms. Allow time to walk slowly, take breaks, and adjust if parking is unavailable.

After a picnic at a designated site, continue toward Devils Garden if the weather and your energy allow. Walk toward Landscape Arch, then turn around rather than automatically extending onto harder routes. In hot conditions, move this longer walk earlier or save it for another day. Return to Moab for dinner, leaving enough time for a relaxed drive out.

Day 2: Delicate Arch and a Flexible Afternoon

Make Delicate Arch your main outing if everyone is comfortable with the trail's length, elevation gain, and exposed terrain. An early start can help you avoid some heat, but check current entry rules before choosing your arrival time. Carry water and sun protection, and bring a headlamp if any walking could happen before daylight.

If the full hike is unsuitable, use the separate viewpoints instead and spend more time at manageable roadside stops. Keep the afternoon open for a missed stop from Day 1 or a break in Moab. Avoid stacking another demanding hike onto the day simply because it fits on the map; desert walking often takes longer than expected.

Day 3: Optional Nearby Scenery or a Weather Buffer

A third day is optional, not essential for this Arches-focused trip. Keep it free if changing weather could affect your priority hike, or use it to explore nearby public lands. Canyonlands National Park's Island in the Sky district and Dead Horse Point State Park offer a different perspective on the region's broad canyon country.

Choose one main destination rather than trying to cover every overlook in both parks. Each has its own fees, conditions, and planning needs, so check the relevant official park website before going. If you have a departing flight, confirm your return route and leave a generous buffer for fuel, rental-car return, and airport procedures.

Practical Tips: Reservations, Budget, and Pacing

Check the official NPS site for current timed-entry requirements, entrance information, closures, and any activity permits. Treat lodging, camping, and park-entry reservations as separate tasks. Download maps before arrival, since cellular service is unreliable in parts of the park, and do not depend on a live connection for every navigation decision.

Use roughly $250 per day as a starting budget estimate, not a quote. Lodging style, group size, rental transportation, and season can move your actual spending substantially; flights and special outings may be additional. Pack lunches to simplify park days, and choose one must-do experience each morning. That leaves room for crowded lots, slower walking, or weather changes.
