This Beavers Bend itinerary uses a relaxed three-day visit as its core, with an optional fourth day for more lake time or a slower departure. If you fly into Texarkana Regional Airport, also called Webb Field, plan on roughly 92 miles and about two hours and seven minutes of driving to the destination area. Your actual arrival time will depend on the route, traffic, stops, and the location of your lodging.

1

Day 1: Arrive, Settle In, and Find the River

Arrive at Texarkana Regional Airport (TXK), pick up your rental vehicle, and allow roughly 127 minutes for the approximately 92.3-mile drive to the Beavers Bend area. Treat those figures as a starting estimate, not a door-to-door promise. Broken Bow is a practical place to handle groceries and other supplies before continuing toward the park or your lodging.

After checking in, keep the first outing modest: a short walk near the Mountain Fork River or a picnic at an established recreation area. If your flight arrives late, skip the extra driving and settle in instead. Review the next day's forecast and official park notices before committing to a hike or lake outing.

Day 2: Forest Walk in the Morning, Lake Time Later

Start with a forest hike while temperatures are cooler, using the current park trail map to choose a distance and difficulty that fit your group. Carry water, wear shoes with traction, and turn around early enough to leave energy for the afternoon. A packed lunch keeps the middle of the day flexible and avoids an unnecessary drive back to town.

Spend the afternoon at Broken Bow Lake, choosing between a reserved boat rental, a suitable paddling outing, or a shoreline picnic. Check weather, access conditions, and rental requirements beforehand. If wind or thunderstorms change the plan, swap in the Forest Heritage Center Museum, subject to current access, or return to your lodging.

Day 3: River Views, Local History, and a Slow Departure

Give the morning to the Mountain Fork River, with a short walk, birdwatching, or fishing if you have the required license and understand current local regulations. Keep the schedule light enough to enjoy a quiet stop rather than rushing between viewpoints. If you have not visited the Forest Heritage Center Museum, it can be a useful addition when open.

For a three-day trip, leave a generous return buffer for the drive to TXK, rental-car return, and airport check-in. Do not use the outbound driving estimate as your entire departure allowance. If you are staying another night, use the afternoon for a scenic drive and an early dinner around Broken Bow or Hochatown.

Day 4: Add One Favorite Experience

An extra day is most useful when it deepens the trip rather than stretching your driving radius. Return to a favorite trail, book another lake outing if conditions cooperate, or spend a quiet morning outside your cabin. Families may appreciate repeating an easy activity more than tackling something entirely new on the final day.

Make this your weather buffer if earlier rain disrupted outdoor plans. Check out on time, pack before your final outing when practical, and avoid leaving luggage or valuables visible in a parked vehicle. For travelers flying home, keep activities close to the departure route and allow ample time for the drive back to Texarkana, fuel, and airport procedures.

How to Shorten the Trip and Handle Logistics

For a two-day weekend, combine Day 1's arrival with a brief river stop, then choose either a forest hike or a lake outing as Day 2's main event. You will enjoy more time outside by dropping an activity than by racing between every stop. A vehicle is the practical way to connect the airport, lodging, park areas, and lake access points.

Book your overnight base before arranging rentals, and check the official Beavers Bend State Park website for current conditions and reservations. Private cabins may have separate check-in rules and cancellation policies. Build a rough budget around lodging, food, transportation, and optional rentals; summer weekends and larger properties can change the total substantially.
