Public parking lots are located behind Bullard Street; avoid long-term parking on narrow side streets to ensure emergency vehicle access. Monument parking is limited to small lots.
Expect total loss of signal once you enter the Gila National Forest toward the Cliff Dwellings. Paper maps are essential as GPS often fails in the deep canyons.
Fill your tank in Silver City before heading into the Gila National Forest, as there are no fuel services near the Cliff Dwellings. Water sources in the forest require filtration.
Evenings are cool year-round due to the 5,895-foot elevation. The most stable weather occurs in late spring before the summer monsoons begin.
NM-15 is extremely narrow and winding; vehicles over 20 feet in length are not recommended for the full route to the dwellings. Use NM-35 as a slightly wider alternative.
